US Special Operations Forces are in Israel Helping Locate Hostages

NYT reports the US commandos are not assigned combat roles

American special operations forces are on the ground in Israel helping locate the hostages Hamas brought into Gaza after the October 7 attack on southern Israel, a Pentagon official said on Tuesday.

“We’re actively helping the Israelis to do a number of things,” said Christopher P. Maier, the assistant secretary of defense for special operations, according to The New York Times. He said the main task is to “identify hostages, including American hostages.”

Maeir did not say how many US commandos were in Israel, but US officials told the Times that several dozen had been deployed in addition to a small team that was already in Israel on October 7. Shortly after the Hamas attack, the Pentagon offered Israel special operations support.

The Times report said that the US commandos were not assigned to combat roles, and so far, there’s no indication that US troops are on the ground in Gaza as Israeli forces are pushing further into the enclave. Maier said the special operators were talking through with their Israeli counterparts “what is going to be a very complex fight going forward.”

Prediction

The last card that Iran has is blowing up the desalination plants of the Gulf countries

They will be left without water in just two weeks

This will happen of course if Trump attacks the Iranian power plants.

Cheap Oil

🇺🇸🛢 US oil inventory model excluding SPR fair value showed ~$95/bbl WTI last week.

This week’s commercial oil inventory draw excluding propane/propylene is 8-9million bbls.

It would put fair value at $98-$99.

By the end of July, another 65-70 million bbls will be gone.

❄️🌊 Mysterious ‘cold blob’ in the Atlantic suggests the AMOC is weakening

A patch of ocean south-east of Greenland is the only place on Earth that is cooling, and it could be a sign that the warm water "conveyor belt" in the Atlantic is slowing down

Over the past 150 years, Earth’s entire surface has been warming, except for one patch of the north Atlantic. Located south-east of Greenland, this area has cooled by as much as 1°C and is known as the “warming hole” or the “cold blob”.

Scientists have been split over why this cold blob exists, but the latest evidence backs up the idea that it is caused by a weakening of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), the system of currents that transports warmth from the tropics to Europe.

The AMOC carries warm, salty water from the Gulf of Mexico towards the north Atlantic, where it cools and sinks, flowing back south along the ocean floor. Scientists are concerned that the surge of freshwater from Greenland’s ...
