Paraguay stopped selling bananas to Argentine importers due to unpaid imports and racking debts.
The Argentine Central Bank is responsible to convert ARS to USD for all import requests but has consistently been proritizing only importers which are friends of the ruling government, while those who aren't continue to wait for months on end as debts continue to stack and more suppliers deny new stock deliveries until their debts are paid.

🇭🇷🍌🚫🇦🇷 — Paraguay suspended its banana exports to Argentina amid its claim for unpaid imports by the country
🍌 The measure was decided by various production entities in Paraguay, emphasizing that they cannot continue covering the costs of sending the fruit without receiving payment. The chamber that groups fruit importers clarified that if the shipment stop is for a couple of days, there would be no shortages.
"The supply will be reestablished when the transfers and corresponding payments for the outstanding invoices are made effectively. Current operational costs represent 40% of the product's cost. These costs must be paid in cash to export."
🍌 In this context, as this outlet learned, a delegation of five producers arrived from Bolivia to demand the Argentine government to pay $14 million for the bananas imported from that country. Argentina owes only these two countries $23 million, while the debt with Ecuador, where most of the fruit comes from, has not been disclosed yet.
