The virus has evolved to become even more contagious and better at evading detection than its predecessor.
To date, 108 cases have been reported.
Researchers who detailed the early strain of the virus called for "urgent action" to contain the virus and prevent a global outbreak.
In 2022, the same disease has spread to more than 100 countries and killed hundreds of people. About 10% of those infected die, according to researchers, and the new strain is considered more deadly.
