• Smithfield, the country’s largest pork producer, built a slaughterhouse in North Carolina that could process 30,000 pigs a day.

• Smithfield had a silent partner named Wendell Murphy, who is in the state Senate.
—— he passed 28 laws in the NC state senate making it illegal to sue a factory farm.
—— he left and went into a partnership with Smithfield and created a way to raise pigs in a warehouses called Murphy 1100’s, instead of on farms.

• They dropped the price of pork from $0.60 a pound to $0.02 a pound.
—— they put out of business over 28,000 independent hog farmers in the state, and was replaced with 2,200 factories, ALL owned by Smithfield or contracted to Smithfield.
—— the only way independent hog farmers could survive was to put the Murphy 1100’s on their property, and they lose all control, making them Serfs on their own ...
