Africans are reportedly chaining themselves to cotton fields as part of a display intended to “remember the past.” Critics argue that such efforts often focus narrowly on the Atlantic slave trade while overlooking other historical forms of slavery, including the Arab slave trade and slavery in parts of Africa today. They say remembering history requires acknowledging the full record rather than only one chapter.
